What is the Start-Up Visa?
The Start-Up Visa, abbreviated as SUV, is an immigration program officially established by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on August 1, 2013. It involves the participation of the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO) in Canada and is designed to attract innovative technology and startup companies to Canada through immigration incentives to undertake entrepreneurial projects.
Why participate in Bizfield's Chinese SUV Project Roadshow?
The key to this immigration policy is that your business plan needs to be recognized by government-designated organizations, accompanied by comprehensive due diligence reports, ultimately resulting in a Letter of Support for the immigration application. This support is required before entering the immigration application phase.
Government-designated organizations fall into three categories:
-
Designated venture capital funds: The applying project must secure at least $200,000 CAD in investment from this fund.
-
Designated angel investor groups: The applying project must secure at least $75,000 CAD in investment (Bizfield can assist).
-
Designated business incubators: The applying project must be approved to enter the incubator's incubation program.
As a member institution of the National Angel Capital Organization (NACO), Bizfield possesses extensive knowledge and experience in angel investments. Members of Bizfield Angel Network have the opportunity to invest a minimum of $75,000 CAD in eligible projects, collaborate with the angel investor organizations designated by the Canadian Immigration Department to issue SUV support letters, and complete their entrepreneurial incubation in Canada, ultimately concluding the SUV application process.
Why does Bizfield choose Chinese as the presentation language for the SUV Roadshow?
Immigration authorities require Start-Up Visa applicants to demonstrate a minimum English language proficiency level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5, which is equivalent to a 5 on the IELTS scale. We understand that many Chinese entrepreneurs have excellent business projects with globally competitive technology or product innovations. However, their English proficiency might only meet the CLB 5 requirement, allowing for everyday communication but making professional investment pitches and answering investor questions less fluent.
Language is just a communication tool, and we do not want highly innovative and competitive entrepreneurial projects to remain unnoticed due to the founders' English presentation skills. Therefore, Bizfield hosts this Chinese roadshow event with the aim of assisting outstanding Chinese SUV applicants who have met the CLB 5 English requirement but struggle with smooth investor presentations and Q&A sessions. We aim to help them seamlessly connect with angel investors, obtain Bizfield-issued SUV support letters, and successfully apply for Canadian permanent residency!
